Producer Notes: B-roll from the authors’ study with first year science teachers.
Technical Notes: Both Jessica and Mark look washed out. I color-corrected, but couldn’t strike a good balance between mids and whites.
Collaborators: Shot by Erin Murphy at AERA in Denver in May, 2010. Interview by Jeff Frank. Edited by Jill Bauerle.
Nice topic, paper, and subject.
It was a great idea to include the classroom footage – definitely helps include natural breaks and rhythm. Mark is quite eloquent and talks very well on camera, which is very nice to watch / listen to.
Oohhhh! I like the wipe! It works well! Great transitions all around, well up to the 2 minute mark…the video keeps getting stuck for me so that’s all I can say for now. I’ve tried watching it 4 times and just over the two minute mark is as far as I could go. Nice, BC!
Okay, I got through it by going straight to the 2:30 mark. It got stuck once again but the second time it played. Internet problem for me? Anyone else have this problem?
Great episode though. The split interviews worked really well maybe because they were referencing each other frequently.
Just what the doctor orreded, thankity you!
Nice piece Jill. The interviewees did a good job and the b-roll was cohesive, I just noticed the one shot around 02:20 was overexposed. Also there were light reflections in Mark’s glasses. If you ever experience this problem just raise the lights and angle them down and you’ll avoid reflections. The last thing was the overall noise in the video — is this a brightcove issue or perhaps a compression bug?
The broll really works well here. I liked the transition that you used between the authors…overall, the video flows really well. At 2:15 the broll looks a bit washed out. I noticed that the still image of the video is brighter than the footage. You may want to try motion’s brightness filter once you’re through editing (I’ve had luck with it in the past.) Great job!
Excellent use of classroom footage and text. The editing and flow worked really well. The exposure of Mark W. looked somewhat grayish and flat, although that might be a compression/Brightcove issue. Very nice!
That was a very clear episode and very well arched. Starting with Jessica who presents the subject at large and the problematic to be followed by Mark that goes into details of the protocol works very well for the flow of comprehension. Very interesting.
Yaaay! B-Roll! Thats so great that you had some to work with! It made it So much more visually stimulating.
Hello to you, Mark Windschitl… from a voice out of your past! Liz Noyes here; from ISU. I stumbled into your website. Sounds like you have done some interesting things along the way. I have no idea if you will see this note; I hope so. I’m in Iowa City area (actually Coralville) now; working as a Mental Health therapist at a hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Mark; even if we lost track of one another years ago, I could never forget you. You were like a brother to me. That was so many years back… now I see kids in the counseling clinic that are the age we were when we were pals… & they seem so incredibly young! It’s been so many years & changes & growings for us both I’d guess & hope! If you do happen to see this; my email is: Liznoyes@southslope.net
