Steadicam

| April 2, 2013

Many people will say they’ve tried on a Steadicam once, and immediately thought, “absolutely not.” What do you think is different about those of us that say “absolutely”?
We’re all crazy.

-From a Q&A with Dave Chameidesl

I have not really tried working with a steadicam– but I am definitely interested in experimenting with one. Watching shots from this video, definitely made me think more about it. But seriously, some of these filmmakers got to wear some heavy steadicam suits….

Check out this video of steadicam shots. It’s about 10 minutes, but the movement in a lot of these shots are beautiful.

Here is the description of the video:
Invented by Garrett Brown in the early 70’s, the steadicam shot — or ‘steadishot’ — has become one of the most dynamic and exciting forms of cinematography and is one of the most engaging visual techniques in a filmmaker’s storytelling arsenal.
I was inspired to make this homage to the art of steadicam cinematography when browsing the database of “top” clips over at steadishots.org, which are rated by the community. After locating what sources I could from the top 50 or so, I decided to stick with the order presented on the site (accurate as of March 1, 2013).
