Memories of Old Awake

This video was shot on a 5D using a Zeiss 50 mm, audio recorded with a Zoom H4N.  The results are so beautiful, and the video illuminates academic research in a particularly profound and visually interesting way.  This makes me want to go to Iceland.

Color Quick Fixes

For our longshot style productions or anything that it's more about getting it out fast is the priority, you might want to try auto color correction.  This is a pretty quick demonstration and doesn't exactly show huge differences, but overall, if something has a pretty bad white balance, I'm finding that Color's auto balance is …

Storytelling Example

Also something I meant to share awhile ago.  I think this is so well done and such an endearing way to tell a story.

Hanging Zoom

We strung up the Zoom today from the lights. The soundcloud above is an excerpt of me reading a book right under the Zoom. And here's an excerpt of me reading a book from further away: Further Away

Shotguns and Lavs

What do you think sounds better in this interview, the lav or the shotgun? Kind of a close call here. The first half of the video is the lav, the second half (repeating the same clip) is the shotgun.

2 useful tricks in Soundtrack Pro

It could seem outdated to publish any tutorials or "tricks" in Soundtrack since FCPX decided to phagocyte this software (alongside Color (rip)), but until FCPX will unveil its secret of sound editing here's 2 things useful to know in Soundtrack Pro: Adjust amplitude and Noise reduction. You'll need to adjust amplitude when you've been too …

FCP X: On the Flip Side

This video about FCP X is changing my mind about the whole thing.  This video tutorial is 50 minutes long, but the dude who hosts it is so entertaining that it goes down easy.  He calls FCP 7 "the place on your couch where your butt fits perfectly, cause you've been sitting in it for …

Quick Tip: Focusing with EVF DTL (AF100)

Countless resources call this feature "absolutely necessary."  The EVF DTL is referred to as "peaking" and peaking uses the high-frequency detail in the image to draw an outline or highlight the edges as you focus.  In other words, it superimposes a line on the outline of whatever is most in focus.  It's quite subtle and …
